Level 1: The gentle starting point for vitamin A
Environ Vita-Antioxidant AVST Moisturiser 1 is the first step in Environ's Vitamin STEP-UP SYSTEM™ and the moisturizer we start most new Environ clients on. It contains a low concentration of vitamin A (retinyl palmitate) with vitamin C and antioxidants to gently introduce your skin to the vitamins it needs to look and act healthier.

Who it's for
Anyone new to Environ or to vitamin A skincare, and sensitive skin that needs the gentlest introduction. If you prefer a lighter, cooling texture, try Vita-Antioxidant AVST Gel, the gel version of this level.
How the AVST levels compare
- Level 1 (Vita-Antioxidant AVST Moisturiser 1 or Vita-Antioxidant AVST Gel): low vitamin A, the gentle starting point.
- Level 2 (AVST Moisturiser 2): medium vitamin A, building on level 1.
- Level 3 (AVST Moisturiser 3): moderately high vitamin A, and the first level to add a peptide.
- Level 4 (AVST Moisturiser 4): high vitamin A for visible signs of aging and sun damage.
- Level 5 (AVST Moisturiser 5): the highest vitamin A in the AVST range, used to maintain results.
Beyond AVST, the premium Youth EssentiA® serums follow their own step-up path, from C-Quence Serum 1 through C-Quence Serum 4 and on to Vita-Peptide Intensive Serum 4 Plus.

What is the Vitamin STEP-UP SYSTEM™?
Environ's philosophy is that healthy skin needs a steady supply of vitamin A, the way the body needs nutrients. Rather than starting at a high dose, the system starts low and increases gradually through five levels. Your skin builds tolerance at each step, which means steady results with minimal irritation.
How to use
After cleansing and toning, massage into face and neck morning and evening. Use at least 2 to 3 bottles before moving up to AVST Moisturiser 2.
Your step-up path
AVST 1 → AVST 2 → AVST 3 → AVST 4 → AVST 5. Not sure when to step up? Ask us. We'll check how your skin is responding.
Building your routine
A complete Environ morning and evening routine at this level looks like this:
- Pre-cleanse in the evening with Dual Action Pre-Cleansing Oil to lift makeup and sunscreen.
- Cleanse with Mild Cleansing Lotion, a gentle lotion cleanser that won't strip the skin.
- Tone with Botanical Infused Moisturising Toner to remove any residue and prep the skin.
- Treat and moisturize with AVST Moisturiser 1 on face, neck, and décolleté.
- Protect every morning with a broad-spectrum sunscreen such as Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Flex SPF 50.
Prefer a lighter, cooling texture? Vita-Antioxidant AVST Gel is the gel version of this level. If your skin feels dry while adjusting, add Vita-Complex Super Moisturiser on top.
Esthetician tip
Apply to slightly damp skin after toning and press it in with your palms. Don't forget your neck and décolleté, which benefit from vitamin A just as much as your face.
Why start at level 1 if my skin isn't sensitive?
Even resilient skin benefits from building vitamin A tolerance gradually. Starting low means fewer setbacks, and you'll move up the levels with steady, comfortable results.
How long until I see results?
Many clients notice softer, smoother, more hydrated skin in the first few weeks. Improvements in tone and fine lines build over the 2 to 3 bottles you spend at this level and continue as you step up.
When do I move up to AVST 2?
After at least 2 to 3 bottles of AVST 1, once your skin is comfortable, you can move to AVST Moisturiser 2. If you're unsure, ask us at your next appointment.
Is it normal for my skin to tingle or flake?
When skin is getting used to more vitamin A, some people notice mild tingling, dryness, or flaking for a short time. That's a sign your skin is adjusting. If it's uncomfortable, use a little less for a few days and add a hydrating booster. If it doesn't settle, let us know.
Can I use it morning and evening?
Yes. Environ's AVST moisturizers are designed for twice-daily use, always followed by sunscreen during the day.
Can I use it while pregnant or nursing?
Please check with your healthcare provider before starting or continuing any vitamin A or other active skincare during pregnancy or nursing.
