Face Reality 5% L-Mandelic Serum is the starting point of Face Reality's mandelic acid line and our go-to recommendation for anyone new to acid exfoliation. It gently clears away dead skin cells that clog pores, smooths rough texture, and brightens dullness, without the sting or redness many acids cause.
Why mandelic acid?
Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) made from bitter almonds. Its molecules are larger than other AHAs like glycolic acid, so it sinks into the skin more slowly and evenly. That means effective exfoliation with much less irritation, which makes it a favorite for sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, and all skin tones. This serum combines the "chirally correct" forms of L-mandelic acid and L-lactic acid, the versions skin uses most efficiently.

How to use
In the evening, apply 1 pump (new packaging) or 2 pumps (older packaging) all over clean, dry skin or to areas of concern. Follow with your moisturizer. When starting, use it every other night and increase to nightly as your skin adjusts. A light tingle is normal.
Important: AHAs can increase sun sensitivity. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day while using this product.
Building your routine
A simple evening routine with this serum looks like this:
- Cleanse with a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser like Ultra Gentle Cleanser.
- Treat with 5% Mandelic Serum on clean, dry skin.
- Hydrate with a lightweight, acne-safe moisturizer such as Hydrabalance Hydrating Gel.
In the morning, finish with a sunscreen like Daily SPF 30 Lotion.

How long until I see results?
Many people notice smoother, softer skin within the first couple of weeks. Clearer pores and a more even tone take consistent use over several weeks, because skin needs time to turn over.
When should I move up to a stronger percentage?
Once your skin tolerates nightly use with no irritation, you may be ready for the 8%. Stepping up gradually is what keeps mandelic acid so gentle. We're happy to help you decide.
Can I use it with other actives?
Mandelic acid plays well with many acne treatments, but layering too many exfoliants at once can over-dry the skin. If you use a retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, or another acid, ask us how to schedule them.
Is it safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. Because it absorbs slowly and evenly, mandelic acid is one of the most commonly recommended acids for melanin-rich skin, which can be more prone to dark marks after irritation.
Can I use it while pregnant or nursing?
Please check with your healthcare provider before starting any new active skincare during pregnancy or nursing.
