Why retinal (retinaldehyde)?
Retinal is a form of vitamin A that sits one step closer to retinoic acid, the form skin actually uses, than retinol does. That means skin needs fewer conversion steps to put it to work. Hale & Hush pairs it with calming and anti-glycation ingredients so it's well suited to people who have struggled with dryness and irritation from other vitamin A products. Glycation is a natural process in which sugars bind to proteins like collagen, which can contribute to dullness and loss of firmness over time.

How to use
For best results, smooth Rare Retinal Serum gently over clean skin at night only. Ultra-sensitive skin may do best using it 2 to 3 times a week. Test for sensitivity before using around the eyes. This product contains a retinoid, so wear an SPF during the day.
Building your routine
- Cleanse in the evening with a gentle cleanser like Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser.
- Treat with Rare Retinal Serum on clean, dry skin.
- Hydrate with a barrier-supporting moisturizer such as Barrier Care Gel Cream.
Every morning, protect with a broad-spectrum sunscreen like TIZO Ultra Zinc Body & Face Tinted SPF 40.

Apply vitamin A to completely dry skin, and use a pea-sized amount for the whole face. More isn't better. Ask us at your next appointment and we'll help you build it into your routine.
Is this a retinol or a retinal?
It's a retinal serum. The active form of vitamin A is IconicA, a stabilized retinaldehyde.
How long until I see results?
Vitamin A works with your skin's natural renewal cycle, so give it consistent use over several weeks. Smoother texture and a brighter look often come first, with fine lines and firmness improving over a few months.
Can I use it with acids or vitamin C?
Using strong exfoliating acids on the same night can be too much for many skin types. Alternate nights or ask us to help you plan a schedule.
Will I peel?
The formula is designed to avoid the typical side effects of retinoids, but every skin is different. If you notice dryness, cut back to a few nights a week and use a good moisturizer.
Can I use it while pregnant or nursing?
This product contains a retinoid. Please check with your healthcare provider before using it during pregnancy or nursing.
