Face Reality
Retinal B3 Serum
The gentlest way to start vitamin A, made for acne-prone skin
Face Reality Retinal B3 Serum (formerly Vitamin A Corrective Serum) is the ideal first step into vitamin A. It uses retinal, a fast-acting yet gentle form of vitamin A, in a microencapsulated, time-release formula. You get real results for breakouts, texture, and early signs of aging, with much less of the dryness and peeling people often expect from retinoids.
Why retinal?
Vitamin A comes in several forms. Retinal (retinaldehyde) is only one step away from the form your skin actually uses, so it works efficiently, but it is gentler than prescription retinoids. Microencapsulation releases it slowly over time, which further cuts down on irritation.
What it does
- Speeds up cell turnover to help keep pores clear and reduce breakouts
- Smooths rough, uneven texture
- Helps fade the look of post-breakout marks and uneven tone
- Supports collagen to soften the look of fine lines
- Delivers vitamin A with minimal irritation thanks to controlled release
Who it's for
Anyone new to vitamin A, including acne-prone, combination, and normal skin, and adults who want to address both breakouts and early aging. It's the step to start with before moving to the stronger Retinol Peptide Serum.

How to use
In the evening, apply 1 pump all over clean, dry skin. Follow with moisturizer. Start 2 to 3 nights a week and work up to nightly as your skin adjusts. Mild dryness or flaking in the first few weeks is normal.
Important: Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen daily while using vitamin A. Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing.
Building your routine
A simple evening routine with this serum looks like this:
- Cleanse with a gentle cleanser like Ultra Gentle Cleanser or Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser.
- Treat with Retinal B3 Serum on clean, dry skin.
- Hydrate with a barrier-supporting moisturizer such as Barrier Care Gel Cream.
Every morning, protect your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen like Daily SPF 30 Lotion.
Esthetician tip
Avoid using this on the same night as strong exfoliating acids when you're first starting out. Ask us how to fit it into your routine so your skin stays comfortable.
How long until I see results?
Vitamin A works gradually. Some people notice smoother texture within a few weeks, while clearer pores, a more even tone, and softer fine lines take a few months of consistent use.
Is some dryness or flaking normal?
Yes, mild dryness or flaking in the first few weeks is normal as your skin adjusts. Use a good moisturizer and cut back to fewer nights a week if needed. If you have burning or significant redness, stop and contact us.
Can I use it with mandelic acid or benzoyl peroxide?
Many acne routines include vitamin A along with other actives, but not all on the same night when you're starting out. Ask us how to schedule them so your skin stays comfortable.
When should I move up to Retinol Peptide Serum?
Once your skin handles Retinal B3 nightly with no irritation and you're ready for stronger results, Retinol Peptide Serum may be your next step.
Can I use it under my eyes?
The skin around the eyes is thin and delicate. Apply to the face while avoiding the immediate eye area unless we've advised otherwise.
Can I use it while pregnant or nursing?
No. Do not use vitamin A products if you are pregnant or nursing. Talk with your healthcare provider about alternatives.
