Who it's for
OUAI says Detox Shampoo is suitable for all hair types. It's especially useful if you use dry shampoo or lots of styling products, swim, work out often, or have hard water at home. OUAI also describes it as sulfate free (no SLS or SLES) and safe for color-treated and keratin-treated hair and for extensions.
Scent
Detox Shampoo carries OUAI's Melrose Place fragrance, a fresh floral with notes of champagne, pink peppercorn, rose, peony and bergamot over a soft base of sandalwood, amber, cedarwood and white musk.
Key ingredients
- Apple cider vinegar to help clarify and remove residue
- Keratin to help strengthen hair
- Chelating agents, which OUAI includes to help remove mineral buildup from hard water
How to use
Apply a quarter-size amount to wet hair and lather from roots to ends. Let it sit for 1 to 3 minutes, then rinse. OUAI suggests finishing with a cool rinse. Follow with conditioner.
Building your hair & scalp routine
- Clarify once or twice a week with OUAI Detox Shampoo.
- Cleanse on your other wash days with your everyday shampoo, such as the Tea Tree Lavender Mint Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner Set for dry hair or Biolage Scalp Sync Clarifying Shampoo for an oily scalp.
- Condition every time you wash. Clarifying removes buildup, and conditioner puts softness back.
- Style with a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment or Moroccanoil Treatment Light on damp ends.

How often should I use a clarifying shampoo?
OUAI recommends once a week for dry hair and once or twice a week, or as needed, for oily hair. Using it every day can leave hair feeling dry, so it's best as a weekly reset.
Is it safe for color-treated hair?
OUAI says it's safe for color-treated hair. If you've just had a color service, we suggest waiting a few days before clarifying.
Can I use it with hair extensions?
Yes, OUAI lists it as safe for extensions. Always follow your extension specialist's care instructions too.
Is it sulfate free?
Yes. OUAI describes the formula as free of SLS and SLES sulfates, as well as parabens and phthalates.
How do I know my hair needs a detox?
Common signs are hair that looks dull, feels heavy or waxy, won't hold a style, or goes greasy quickly even after washing.
Do I still need conditioner?
Yes. A clarifying shampoo removes buildup very effectively, and conditioner restores softness and slip. Follow every detox wash with conditioner on your mid-lengths and ends.
Is it gentle enough for a sensitive scalp?
Most people do well with it once or twice a week. If your scalp feels tight or itchy afterward, use it less often and rinse thoroughly.
