Why exfoliate your scalp?
Your scalp is skin, and like the skin on your face, it builds up dead cells, oil and residue over time. Dry shampoo, styling products, hard water and sweat all add to that layer. A regular scalp exfoliation clears it away so your scalp feels fresher, your hair has more lift at the root, and your shampoo and treatments can reach the scalp more easily.

How to use
Apply to a wet scalp before shampooing, working section by section. Massage gently with your fingertips using small circular motions, letting it foam, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with your shampoo and conditioner. Paul Mitchell recommends using it weekly or as needed. Be gentle: let the salt do the work and avoid scrubbing hard or using your nails.

How often should I use a scalp scrub?
About once a week works for most people. If you have an oily scalp or use a lot of product, you might use it a little more often. If your scalp is sensitive or dry, start with every other week.
Do I still need shampoo?
Yes. The scrub is a pre-shampoo step. Paul Mitchell recommends rinsing it out and then following with your shampoo and conditioner.
Is it safe for color-treated hair?
Paul Mitchell lists the scrub as color safe, and it's also vegan. If you've just had a color service, we still suggest waiting a few days before any scalp exfoliation, and asking your stylist about timing.
Can I use it if my scalp is irritated?
Skip it on broken, sunburned or irritated skin, and avoid scrubbing over any cuts or sores. If you have an ongoing scalp condition, check with a dermatologist first.
Will it help with flakes?
It helps lift away dead skin flakes and buildup. Flaking that keeps coming back, or that comes with redness and itching, may need a different approach, so ask us or your doctor.
