French green clay for a deep-cleaning, mattifying mask
Our Clay Detox Mask is made with French Green Clay, also known as Montmorillonite or Illite Clay. Many consider it a healing clay, and it's widely used for its skin-loving properties. When applied to the skin, it absorbs oil and impurities that get trapped in the skin.
The clay originates from France and is mined directly from the earth. French Green Clay is a 100% natural bio-organic material filled with minerals. Its color can range from light green to dark green, with little to no odor, and it has a shelf life of 4 to 5 years. It is sometimes called "marine clay" because its quarries are found in ancient marine beds.
What it does
- Absorbs excess oil and helps lift impurities from pores
- Leaves skin feeling clean, refreshed and less shiny
- Helps congested, breakout-prone skin feel clearer
- Can be used on the face and on body areas like the back and chest
Who it's for
Oily, combination and breakout-prone skin, and anyone who wants a deep-cleaning mask once or twice a week. If your skin is dry or sensitive, use it on oily areas only (like the T-zone) and keep the time short.
How to use
- Start with clean skin.
- In a non-metal bowl, mix a small amount of clay with water until it forms a smooth, spreadable paste.
- Apply an even layer to the face or body, avoiding the eyes and lips.
- Leave on for about 10 minutes. Rinse before the mask is completely dry and cracking, so it doesn't over-dry your skin.
- Rinse with warm water and follow with a moisturizer.
Use 1 to 2 times a week, depending on how oily your skin is.

Why shouldn't I let the mask dry completely?
Clay keeps absorbing moisture as it dries. Leaving it on until it cracks can pull too much water from your skin and leave it tight or irritated. Rinse while it's still slightly damp.
Why a non-metal bowl?
Many people who use natural clays prefer glass, ceramic or plastic bowls and utensils for mixing. It's an easy habit that keeps your mask fresh and clean.
Can I mix it with something other than water?
Water is simplest. If your skin runs dry, ask us about other options that suit your skin before you experiment.
Will my skin be red after?
A little pinkness right after rinsing is common with clay masks and should fade quickly. If you notice irritation that lasts, use it less often or for a shorter time.
How should I store it?
Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, dry place. Only mix what you plan to use right away.
Can I use it while pregnant or nursing?
Please check with your healthcare provider before starting any new skincare product during pregnancy or nursing.
