Why mineral makeup loves a setting mist
Mineral powders and powder sunscreens can sometimes look dry or sit on the surface of the skin, especially on dehydrated or mature skin. A fine mist of hydration helps the powder melt into your skin so it looks like skin, not makeup. It also helps the layers of your routine wear together for a more polished finish.
How to use
- To set makeup: hold 8 to 10 inches from your face and mist evenly after applying makeup.
- To refresh: mist over makeup or bare skin anytime during the day.
- Makeup artist tip: mist your brush before applying mineral powder or palette shades for a more intense, longer-wearing color.

Here's how Hydrating Mist Setting Spray fits into a Colorescience routine:
- Hydrate with Barrier Pro™ Essential Moisturizer.
- Protect with a mineral sunscreen such as Total Protection™ No-Show™ Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50.
- Even out with Natural Finish Mineral Foundation SPF 20 or Tint du Soleil™ Whipped Mineral Foundation SPF 30.
- Set with a few spritzes of Hydrating Mist Setting Spray.
- Reapply SPF midday with Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Brush-On Shield SPF 50, then mist again to soften the powder.
Esthetician tip
Keep a bottle at your desk. A couple of spritzes after a midday sunscreen touch-up is the easiest way to keep your skin looking fresh until evening.
Does it have SPF?
No. It's a setting and hydrating mist, not a sunscreen. Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply it throughout the day.
Will it disturb my makeup?
No. Hold it 8 to 10 inches from your face so the mist is fine and even. Let it dry naturally instead of rubbing it in.
Can I use it without makeup?
Yes. It's a nice refresh over bare skin during the day, especially in dry winter air or on a long flight.
How do I use it with eyeshadow?
Mist your brush, then pick up mineral powder or a palette shade. The color goes on more intensely and lasts longer. This is how we turn shades from the Beauty On The Go Palette into eyeliner.
Is it good for oily skin?
Yes. The mist is lightweight, and setting your makeup helps it wear longer.
When should I mist: before or after powder?
Both work. Misting after powder is the classic way to set makeup and take away any dry, powdery look. Misting your brush before powder gives more intense color. Many of our clients do a light mist at the end of their routine and another after a midday sunscreen touch-up.
