Face Reality 2.5% Advanced Acne Med is a water-based benzoyl peroxide gel that goes into the pore to fight acne-causing bacteria, clear out clogs, and help keep new ones from forming. At 2.5%, it's the gentlest strength in the line, a great starting point for anyone new to benzoyl peroxide or with drier skin.
Why benzoyl peroxide?
Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective acne ingredients available. It releases oxygen into the pore, where acne bacteria can't survive. Lower strengths like 2.5% are often just as effective as higher ones for many people, with less dryness and irritation.

How to use
After cleansing, toning, and any serum, apply a thin layer over the affected area or the full face if directed. Let it dry for about a minute before your moisturizer. Start once a day, every other day if needed, and build up as your skin adjusts.
Good to know: Benzoyl peroxide can bleach fabrics, so use white pillowcases and towels. Some dryness is normal; a barrier-supporting moisturizer helps.
Building your routine
Acne Med is usually the last treatment step before moisturizer. A typical evening routine looks like this:
- Cleanse with a gentle cleanser like Ultra Gentle Cleanser.
- Tone with a hydrating toner such as Moisture Balance Toner.
- Treat with a serum if one is part of your plan, like 5% Mandelic Serum, then apply a thin layer of 2.5% Acne Med.
- Hydrate with a non-clogging moisturizer such as Hydrabalance Hydrating Gel.
In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Esthetician tip
Consistency beats strength. Most clients see the best results by using Acne Med every day as part of a full routine rather than spot-treating occasionally.
How long until I see results?
Some people notice calmer breakouts within the first couple of weeks, but it typically takes several weeks of daily use to see a real change. Breakouts can come and go during that time, so stick with it.
Is 2.5% strong enough?
For many people, yes. Lower strengths of benzoyl peroxide can work well with less dryness. If your skin tolerates it well and you need more help, you can step up to the 5% Advanced Acne Med.
Should I spot-treat or apply it all over?
Breakouts start forming under the skin long before you see them, so applying a thin layer over the whole breakout-prone area usually works better than chasing individual spots. Follow the plan your esthetician gives you.
My skin is dry and flaky. Should I stop?
Some dryness is normal at first. Scale back to every other day, add a hydrating layer, and let your skin adjust before building back up. If you have burning or swelling, stop and contact us.
Can I use it while pregnant or nursing?
Please check with your healthcare provider before using benzoyl peroxide or any active skincare during pregnancy or nursing.
